"Let's talk about
the wood we make our GLU-LAM logs from"
GLU-LAMINATED (GLU-LAMS)
logs are made from kiln dried Spruce and Pine boardsthis is the
Sierra standardCedar is available. Our demands are for very dry
wood so your home will stay absolutely stable after the laminating
process.
These logs are absolutely beautiful
with unmatched character and is as close to a perfect log as
you can get. The colors of the wood are breathtakingnatural white
pine background with wisps of tans, browns, red and grey streaking
through the log. Each log carries its own uniqueness and excitementthis
is what makes every log home so awesome!
"It's time to explain
to you how we make our GLU-LAM logs"
The process of
making a GLU-LAM log is the same as making a glu-lam beam.the
same process, same standards and the same grading rules. The
following steps are taken to hand make this incredible, stable
log:
| STEP 1 |
The
boards are graded and hand sorted for the desire sequence of
the "best boards" are placed to the outer sides. |
| STEP 2 |
The
boards are pushed through the glue machine that spreads the glue
evenly over the board. |
| STEP 3 |
The
board with the glue is then pressed up against a dry board. |
| STEP 4 |
The
glued boards are then clamped together in what we call a "lock-up".
These big clamps are put into a high compression condition. |
| STEP 5 |
The
"lock-up" is left to dry |
| STEP 6 |
Samples
of the finished glu-lam is brought over to Quality Control for
shear testing to make sure the glue is holding as per the grade
requires. |
| STEP 7 |
The
"lock-up" is then broken down and gets its glu-lam
grade stamp (TPI grade stamp). |
| STEP 8 |
The
logs are then sent off to the planer to make the final shape
of the log product. |
"Understand the
process and you will know why this is the Best log for you to
buy"
We put allot of
effort into making the most beautiful and stable GLU-LAM log
as we can. The Sierra log shaping machine and choosing beautiful
wood enables us to achieve these high standards.
The final log profile is produced
by using big cutters that carve the wood into the desired shape
as the "log GLU-LAM blank" travels through the machine.
By using a fixed, high speed cutting process, our logs come out
with the most beautiful smooth finish and always the same sizethis
is very important for accuracy and beauty.
"Choose a smooth
finish or more a natural hand-peel finish"
Whatever your taste
demands, you can have with a Sierra log home. If your desire
is for the more contemporary look, then you will desire the standard
smooth finishvery elegant.
However, if you desire a more
rustic or natural appearance, you may opt for our hand-peeled
or hand hewn finish. A choice that will dramatically alter the
look of a uniform log home to a more natural state, especially
when you incorporate natural logs into your log home. Something
to consider when you are desiring a more personal expression
of rustic elegance!
The result is our GLU-LAMINATED
LOGbeautiful, stable with highly accurate log dimensions easy
to build with and absolutely breathtaking to look at!
